So….Date Night

a>Our night out last night was fun.  Didn’t quite go as planned, but does it ever?  First we met downtown at MacKenzie’s.  Doug was going to stop for a quick happy hour with his buddy Joel, so I just offered to meet them there.  We enjoyed a nice summer beer, or at least, I did.  Doug and Joel were drinking Surly.  I just can’t do the Surly.  For one thing, the alcohol content of that beer is through the roof!

Then we headed over to Uptown to have dinner at Lucia’s, a wonderful little restaurant and wine bar that features local, organic, and sustainable food.  Well, by the time we dealt with traffic, found someplace to park in Uptown (which is no small task) and walked there, we realized we were short on time if we were goign to make the 7 pm Dark Knight showing at The Lagoon theater.  So, we quickly changed plans and went to Chaing Mai Thai.  Not a bad option for decent Thai, but it’s a place we’ve been to a zillion times.  Oh well…

Next we were off to the Lagoon to see the show.  D.Jones got in line for tix while I headed straight for the popcorn, but next thing I know, Doug comes around the corner laughing and says “um…no 7pm show.”  What!?  I assumed they were sold out, though the lobby looked pretty quiet and it was Tuesday!  Doug proceeds to tell me that they are showing some “promotional film” in place of Dark Knight at 7pm and the next show is 9:45!

O-kay.  Next change in plans.  We quickly start dialing from our cells (on the corner no less!) and find out that there is a show at 7:20 in the ‘burbs…..about 1/2 hour away, and it’s now 7pm!  Okay….we drive.  Fast.  But not before I snap a few curbside pics. Excuse my picture taking, but I was laughing really hard at our situation. The result? This: < Doug calls it his U2 album cover.
We get to the theater at 7:22.  Not a big deal except that one of the things I could have added to my “quirky meme” the other day is that I’m freakish about getting the seat I want in a theater.  I honestly force Doug to get to theaters ridiculously early so I can sit where I want and be properly “situated” before the show starts.  Now we were already 2 minutes late!!  Doug askss the guy at the ticket booth if we are missing the movie and he assures us that the movie won’t actually start for another 8 minutes or so.  In we go.

I did get to sit where I wanted, even though the theater was pretty full, so all was well.

Now, as for The Dark Knight?  This isn’t going to be a popular opinion….but I was bored to tears!  If the Joker wasn’t on the screen, I tuned out.  Heath was amazing, though.  I’m making a safe assumption that Doug felt the same since he slept through large parts of the movie.  Yeah….apparently we’re that old.

None of that really mattered though because we still had fun, and we had a night to ourselves.

So, in the end, it was actually perfect.  Oh, and thanks Grammie & Papa!

I’m craving some Thai now. It’s been at least a year since I’ve had some. We used to have this amazing Thai restaurant right next to our old office; I miss it.

So you were BORED by the movie? Yikes. I’ve heard everyone say how amazing Heath is, so I still want to see it.

All in all, it still sounds like a great night to me. Yay!

Ahhh, the love of date night… Even if they go horribly wrong, you are still alone. And who doesn’t love that?
