Recent Cooperisms

Oh, the child has been full of them lately.  I’ve been trying to remember to write them down somewhere for future reference, but keep forgetting to actually begin that journal.  I’m terrible at writing stuff down, but if I can type it, I’m all over it.  So this will have to suffice.

Here is some insight into the things I hear day in and day out…

The other day while getting him dressed, he kept running from me, as usual.  This time we were in a hurry and I was getting annoyed.  I finally got a hold of the little wiggle worm and said sternly “When I say come here, you march!”  To which he replies “Okay, Mommy, but I’d rather just walk.”

He followed that scenario up by saying “were you just a little frustrated with me?”  I say “yes, Cooper, you need to listen.  When you don’t, I get a little angry.”  To which he responds “you need to get a grip on yourself, Mommy.”  What!?  I don’t even use that phrase!

A couple of weekends ago when I took D.Jones out of town for his birthday, my parents kept Cooper overnight.  My Dad was showing Cooper a catalog of various tools, thinking the shrunken Bob The Builder would be interested.  Cooper looked at them with my Dad for a little bit, then waved off the magazine and said “this is not useful Papa” and marched away.  (or should I say “walked”?  Whatever.)

We are shopping for a new couch so over the past week I’ve dragged the poor child to way too many furniture stores seeking just the right one.  The other day he had more than he could take and at the final stop on our tour he begins yelling loudly “I don’t want to be in this store!”  A sales guy heard the ruckus (as did all of the other shoppers) and came over to befriend little Cooper, who wasn’t interested.  I decided we’d just pack it up and head out, but I had a question for the salesguy first.  He says to Cooper “but you just got here, buddy, why do you want to leave already?” Cooper stares him down but doesn’t respond.  I ask my question, get my answer and say that we are outta there.  The guy leans down, says “hi-five” to Cooper, who obliges, but still no smile.  The guy says “see you soon, buddy!” in a way too cheesy tone and Cooper says “okay”.  We head for the door when Cooper turns around, looks at the guy and says “no, actually, I don’t want to see you soon.”  Hey…he’s honest.  He has no interest in this furniture shopping business.  I told my parents this one and they said “oh my goodness, what did the guy do?”  I told them I was too embarrassed to turn around, so I never saw his expression.

That’s my boy.  We’ve known he is precocious for a while now, but as with fine wine…with age, he seemingly only gets better.   He does keep things interesting, though.

I’m still laughing about the “get a grip” thing. I was just telling Harry about that one this morning over breakfast. Yes, we talk about Cooper a lot. LOL.

LMAO!!! OMG, I’m so glad to know that I’m not the only one with a pint-sized toddler with huge attitude. And you can bet I’m going to throw “Get a grip on yourself Kristin!” at you every chance I get from now on. ;)
